Mindfulness

"Attention is the leader of the brain." It is our brain's way of choosing the most important pieces of information among every other thing. This is what the TED talk of Amishi Jha talks about.

If external distraction (stressors) are introduced, "the gap of attention shrinks and its power diminishes". Internal distraction (our very own "mind wandering" with or without awareness) also has this same effect. The solution, then, is to do the opposite of the two: To be mindful. Mindfulness "has to do with paying attention to our present moment experience with awareness and without emotional reactivity to what is happening." Mindfulness, though, takes practice before it can be fully mastered and becomes an inherent behavior.

Take home message: "Pay attention to your attentoin." So that instead of attention becoming a distraction, it becomes a guide.

Thing(s) to do: Practice daily mindfulness!
